How to become BGAS Painting & Coating Inspector
In order to become a certified painting & coating inspector, you’ll need to complete a training program and pass an exam. The programs last for one year and are available through both classroom instruction and online learning. This can lead to an Associate’s degree in painting or a related field. Upon completion of the training program, you’ll need to pass an exam.

Preparatory Training
We provide training for painting/Coating inspectors ( Gr 3/2) and senior painting/Coating inspectors. (Gr 1) prior to the examination. so that it will be easy for the candidate to clear the examination with ease. Training consists of theory, practical sessions, effective power point and video presentations, and discussions on the topics.
Mock-up exams are Conduct to assess knowledge gained and improve confidence levels. These mockup tests give participants quick access to the strengths and weaknesses of a particular topic. Allows you to bring more important issues to the forefront to reach your goals.
Examination of Painting Inspection
Prior to the exam the candidates must attend a 4 day seminar conducted by TWI. in a star hotel and on the 5th day exam will be conducted.
Exam Pattern
It consist of 1 theory and 1 practical MCQ paper whose details are mention below:
– Theory- 50 Multiple choice questions- 1hour 30 min.
– Practical- 50 Multiple-choice questions- 1 hour 30 min
– 70% is required in each section to pass

Qualification Requirements:
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum 3 years of experience in Painting.
Either; NACE Level II coating inspector or TWI/BGAS grade
2 painting inspector.
Familiar with codes ANSI, SSPC, ASTM, NACE, AWWA,
ISO, AS etc.
Responsibilities:
To review Coating Procedure
Supervise the Contractor and Subcontractor Activities
to Implementation of various Customer Specification during production process
To monitoring and Controlling all Contractor and
Subcontractor Inspection Activities (Surface preparation
Blasting and Painting to ensure and check abrasive, surface
profile, coating, environmental and Perform test such
as Holiday test, Adhesion test (after the coating process will
quantify the strength of the bond between substrate &
coating).
To review & verify with Client all works completed
successfully and ensure that Report/Record as Per Client
Specification and Fabrication Procedure.
Controlling and Evaluating all the Quality Control activities
during all the painting activities
To Control Calibration Interval, Calibration Status and InHouse Calibration of Equipment o Final Inspection coating
prior shipment.
To review & compile All Field Blasting and Painting Record
for Manufacturing Data Report (MDR) or Project
Documentation for turn over document to Client.
